University of Virginia Internship Programs (UIP)
2012-2013 Online UIP Intern Application

Thank you for your interest in applying to the
University Internship Programs (UIP)

Please read the instructions below before completing your online UIP application.

INFORMATION and INSTRUCTIONS

In order to be considered for admission to the University Internship Programs (UIP), you must first complete the application below; and, second, complete an interview with a UIP representative. You will have the opportunity to select an interview time at the end of the application.

Information sessions, admission, and in-person interviewing events and deadlines for UIP's summer and academic year programs will take place on Grounds during the Spring 2012 semester. Therefore, if you are going to be off Grounds during the Spring semester, please take the initiative to make arrangements to complete your application and conduct your preliminary in-person interview no later than Friday, December 16, 2011. There are a limited number of interviewing times available. UIP will accommodate students on a first-come, first-served basis. Because many others will be attempting to do the same, please do not wait until the last minute, contact UIP as early as possible to make your arrangements (intern-uip@virginia.edu, 434-982-2055, 434-982-5552). Even if you are unable to participate in the in-person, on-Grounds, application interviews and related activities in the Spring 2012, you are encouraged to submit your online application before the application period deadline. You will be placed on a wait list for further consideration and interviews at the beginning of the Fall semester 2012.

UIP application periods and application deadlines are as follows:

November 1, 2011 - February 24, 2012, 5 PM:

Type all information directly into your application. Please DO NOT copy/cut and paste information into the application from another document, or from elsewhere within the application form. Embedded coding in the copy/cut and paste process will cause problems with your ability to submit and print your application information. Also, please navigate within the application form by either moving your cursor from place to place, or using the tab key. Please DO NOT use your return key.

Please preview the application before you begin. If you preview the application and give some preliminary thought to the instructions below, completion of the application should take about 45 to 60 minutes. Except for the links contained in the application form, if you navigate to another web site before you have submitted your application you will lose the information you entered and will have to begin a new application.

Selected sections of your application will be shared with prospective internship organizations and sponsors. Therefore, please respond to all questions thoughtfully and completely. Your application should be free of typographical, spelling, grammatical, punctuation, capitalization, and other writing errors.

You will be asked to indicate specific internship topics / subject matter areas in which you are interested from a pull-down menu. You can preview the pull-down menu of internship areas in part XIV of the application below.

You will be asked to express a preference for internships in which you are interested from the Online UIP Internship Listing. UIP internships and organizations can be previewed by clicking on the "Online UIP Internship Listing" link in part XV of the application below.

In part XIII you will be asked about your expected internship outcomes and anticipated post-graduation plans. Your response will assist us in determining the appropriate internship match for you, and will serve as your writing sample for evaluation by UIP faculty, staff, and prospective internship sponsors.

You may serve in 2 internships during 2012-13 by combining the UIP Academic Year Internship Program option with any of the UIP Summer Session Internship Program options. If you are interested in participating in a summer and academic year internship, you need to complete only 1 application.

When you have completed your application and selected an interview time, remember to click on "Submit Information" at the bottom of the application.

After you have submitted your application you will receive an acknowledgment message confirming your interview time and providing additional important information regarding your interview. PRINT this acknowledgement for your reference and use.

If you have questions, please email or call the UIP office at Intern-UIP@Virginia.edu, 434-982-2055 or 434-982-5552.
