Thank you for your interest in the University Internship Program at the University of Virginia. During the academic year 2013-14, the University Internship Program will celebrate its 37th year of service, interning, experiential learning, and community engagement. Currently, there are 7,500+ University Internship Program alumni. U.Va.'s University Internship Programs (UIP) is a year-round, supervised, for-credit, academic internship program. The UIP has two parts: an academic seminar and a supervised professional practice internship (lab). Our core program is the two-semester, academic year program. However, during the 8 week summer session, UIP offers a variety of local, national, and international internship programs. Interns earn 4 credits per semester for the academic work associated with their internships. Students are admitted to the UIP through an application and review process. UIP interns are thoughtfully placed in pre-approved, monitored, direct- and indirect-client contact, professional practice internships in a wide variety of public and private organizations in the Charlottesville area that are consistent with interns' academic and professional goals and personal interests, and the needs and requirements of the internship organization / supervisor. The online University Internship Program (UIP) Listing is indicative of the close partnership between the UIP and a wide variety of for-profit, not-for profit organizations, and governmental agencies in the greater Charlottesville area; and, represents a wealth of personal and professional development opportunities and possibilities for students who participate in the University Internship Program. The UIP Listing contains proprietary information and data intended for the sole benefit and use of UIP faculty and staff involved in intern recruitment, counseling, and placement; and, current and prospective UIP interns and UIP internship supervisors who will be participating in the University Internship Program for 2013-14. The UIP's programs and processes are designed to ensure success and the best possible professional practice internship match for prospective interns and internship supervisors. The Listing has not been developed for the purposes of broadcasting the availability of internships or increasing general public knowledge of internship possibilities outside of the context of the University Internship Program. For those reasons, we expect visitors will not use the List to undermine the UIP, or circumvent UIP's intern placement process.
